It’s still early in the season, but Valladolid’s Thursday clash with Levante certainly has all the hallmarks of a six-pointer in the La Liga (LL) survival race. Fasten your seat belts for an action-packed encounter at the Zorrilla between two sides that are badly in need of a win.
Newly-promoted Valladolid’s wait for a first triumph of the campaign extended to five games (D3, L2) as they fought back from two goals down to snatch a 3-3 draw deep into injury time against Celta at the Balaídos last Saturday. Sergio González’s side have failed to scored in any of their two home games so far, losing 1-0 to Barcelona and Alavés.
Levante, who sit just a point above Valladolid going into the clash, cannot afford to feel sorry for themselves following the 6-2 thumping they suffered at the hands of Sevilla on Sunday, which stretched their winless run to four matches (D1, L3). In their last outing away from home, Paco López’s men succumbed to a 1-0 defeat against Espanyol.
It’s 54 years to the day that Levante claimed their only win away at Valladolid in the top-flight. That being said, Valladolid are winless in their last five meetings with Levante in all competitions (D2, L3).
Players to watch: Levante forward Roger Martí has netted four LL goals from 13 shots so far this season (405 min).
Young attacking midfielder Leo Suárez had a dream debut for Valladolid, scoring a 94th-minute equaliser just two minutes after coming off the bench to rescue a point against Celta.
Stat attack: There has never been a goalless draw in 22 previous meetings between these teams in the top two tiers of Spanish football.
Valladolid have now gone 16 home matches without conceding more than two goals.

Sevilla snapped their previous three-game goalless run in emphatic fashion, after scoring 11 in just a few days – against Standard Liege (5-1; Europa League) and then at Levante (6-2)!
They return home, where surprisingly they are yet to find the scoresheet in a La Liga game this season, though are starting to look more like the Sevilla that scored 31 at home in 2017/18.
Real Madrid have dropped points just once this season, albeit in their last away game (at Athletic Bilbao). They have taken points from 18 of their last 21 league games on the road (W11, D7, L3) but have won just one of their last five (D3, L1) including the loss at Sevilla (3-2) back in May.
As mentioned, ‘Los Blancos’ have failed to claim a victory in their last three away fixtures against Sevilla, including the first-leg of their Copa Del Rey Round-of-16 tie in 2016/17. Both teams scored in all three matches.
Players to watch: Wissam Ben Yedder (Sevilla) netted a hat-trick (and one assist) in the 6-2 rout of Levante as well as a double against Standard Liege. He also scored in Sevilla’s last home meeting with Real Madrid.
Gareth Bale (Real Madrid) looks set to return to the side off the back of a goal against Roma. He has registered a goal and/or an assist in eight of his last nine appearances for club or country.

In what is expected to be a fairly one-sided match, Atlético welcome Huesca to the Wanda Metropolitano for a first-ever meeting of these two sides, with the visitors hoping to bolster an away record that has seen them pick up all of their La Liga (LL) points on the road so far.
Having lost at home in LL just once this calendar year (W9, D4, L1), title-contenders Atlético are well used to converting their match-favourite tag into points on the board. However despite being unbeaten at home this campaign (W1, D1) the hosts can be slow-starters, and have only scored a first-half goal in one of their last five LL home games.
Contrast that with their opponents, who have netted four of their six LL away goals in the first-half. In fact Huesca are yet to score a goal at home this season – even against nine-man Real Sociedad in their last outing (0-1) – and have their away form (W1, D1, L1) to thank for their four points so far (W1, D1, L3).
