GIBRALTAR v LIECHTENSTEIN MATCH PREVIEW

Spirits will be high on the Rock as Gibraltar return home having notched a historic first-ever competitive win at the weekend. Despite this, they remain bottom of the group on goal difference ahead of this visit by Liechtenstein.
That 1-0 away victory in Armenia brought three teams in the UEFA Nations League D (UNL), group four, level on points. However should Macedonia win their game against Armenia, these nations may well be playing for pride alone.
That famous win was also Gibraltar’s first clean sheet in 23 competitive games since their recognition as a footballing nation. Interestingly, they are yet to draw a competitive fixture (W1, L22), with 17 of their 22 defeats coming to nil.
Despite being slightly higher in the FIFA rankings and recording a 2-0 win in the reverse fixture, Liechtenstein (FIFA rank: #178) have not won a competitive away game since November 2014 (L9) – they did play out a goalless away draw with Gibraltar in a friendly back in 2016 though.
Not only do both nations have dire form at home and away, they also concede a lot of goals – Gibraltar have conceded two or more in all 11 of their competitive home fixtures whilst the same can be said of Liechtenstein’s last nine away from home.
Players to watchJoseph Chipolina’s name will go down in history as his goal secured Gibraltar’s win over Armenia.
Dennis Salanović has scored in two of his last three starts in the Swiss Super League for Thun – he also got both goals in Liechtenstein’s UNL win over Gibraltar.
Stat attack: Gibraltar have scored just one goal in 11 competitive fixtures at Victoria Stadium.
A goal has been scored between 30 and 45 minutes in each of Gibraltar’s last seven competitive home fixtures.
Liechtenstein have been losing at HT/FT in seven of their last nine competitive away matches.
