MATCH PREVIEW

PSV couldn’t have imagined a worse start to their 2018/19 Champions League (CL) campaign, as they suffered a 4-0 away defeat at the hands of Barcelona. Things don’t get any easier here, as they host Italian heavyweights Inter Milan on matchday two.
Mark van Bommel’s men, however, can find some comfort in their domestic form. PSV have won their first seven Eredivisie matches and have looked dominant in the process, scoring 26 goals and conceding three. Quick-starters, PSV scored the match opener in all seven games, and have been winning at half-time in six.
Inter won’t be easy opponents though. After a slow start to their season the Italians recorded four-straight wins (in all competitions), and kicked off their CL campaign with a 2-1 comeback win over Tottenham. On the road, they’ve lost just one of their last seven away fixtures (in all competitions; W5, D1, L1).
Taking part in their 12th CL group stage, the Milan outfit’s 2010 CL win was the last time an Italian club won this tournament.
This will be just the third meeting between these two sides, with PSV still seeking their first goal against the the ‘Nerazzurri.’ The two previous encounters occurred in the 2007/08 CL group stage where Inter won both matches: 2-0 (home) and 1-0 (away).
Players to watch: Hirving Lozano (PSV) is unstoppable at the moment and has five goals in the Eredivisie this season.
Mauro Icardi (Inter) has notched two goals and one assist during Inter’s four-game winning run.
Stat attack: PSV have scored 12 of their 26 Eredivisie goals in the first-half.
Inter have been winning at half-time in just three of their seven Serie A matches, although they have scored first in five of those games.
PSV’s all-time record against Italian opponents reads: W9, D5, L10.
Meanwhile, Inter’s record against Dutch sides is far more positive: W8, D6, L5.
