MATCH PREVIEW

The Madrid derby remains one of the most competitive and fiercest inter-city rivalries in football history, and this Saturday will see the two sides clash for the 63rd time in the La Liga (LL) era.
With LL title rivals Barcelona falling to a shock loss last week at the then bottom-side Leganes (2-1), Real Madrid had the chance to go top of the league but lost 3-0 away to Sevilla – the first time they’d failed to score in 26 games!
Before that loss however, Real were previously unbeaten in LL this season (W4, D1). At the Santiago Bernabéu, Real remain a different animal and are unbeaten (W10, D2) in their last 12 LL matches, scoring 42 goals in that time.
Atletíco Madrid started their LL season relatively slowly but after a 2-0 loss at Celta earlier this month, they’ve gone on a four-game unbeaten run (all competitions) including two wins – and clean sheets – in their last two LL outings. Their overall league record this season stands at: W3, D2, L1, while their LL away record is: W1, D1, L1.
In the league, Real hold the upper-hand in the H2H with 34 wins (109 goals scored) compared to Atletí’s 11 (63 goals scored) – with 17 draws. Atletí did, however, beat Real in the UEFA Super Cup this season.
Players to watch: Karim Benzema (MAD) has four goals (LL) and scored in their last H2H in the Super Cup. Antoine Griezmann (ATL) is the main threat to the hosts and is on two goals and three assists in LL this season.
Stat attack: The last three H2H encounters in LL have all been draws (1-1, 0-0, 1-1).
Atletí are unbeaten at the Santiago Bernabéu in LL in their last five (W3, D2).
In all competitions, both teams have scored in four of their last six H2H matches.
