Match: 19:00 Groningen – Willem II
Prediction: 1 Half Over 0.5 Goals
Average odds: 1.35
Bookmaker: Bwin
Result: 0:1(0:1) WIN!!!

After an opening weekend in the Eredivisie that produced several eye-catching results, including Groningen’s astounding 5-1 defeat to Vitesse in Danny Buij’s first game in charge, the home side are back in action as they welcome a Willem II team that also suffered defeat in their opener to Venlo (1-0).
Conceding five goals on the opening day is not new for Groningen. They managed the same feat vs Feyenoord in 2016/17 when the ‘Pride of the North’ were winless in their first five games. The feeling around the club is that they can bounce back here, after Buij described the rout as “a very painful lesson” for his players.
Taking charge of Willem II for just the second time, Adrie Koster has a real job on his hands if he wants to add to the club’s last victory here. That was last season, and was only Willem II’s second victory in 16 visits to Groningen.
Last season’s top scorer for Willem II, Fran Sol, posted a video last month in which he stated his disapproval of VAR. Ironically, the first ever Eredivisie VAR review ruled out a Sol goal for handball against Venlo – expect more VAR drama throughout this campaign.
Players to watch: Ritsu Doan has scored eight goals for Groningen in 2018; no player has more this calendar year.
Sol (Willem) scored the only goal in the away fixture last term. After having a goal chalked off last week, he will be looking to get on the scoresheet here.
Stat attack: Willem II have the highest percentage of foreign players on their books of any Eredivisie side (48.1%).
This fixture has produced under 2.5 goals in four of the last five meetings at the Noordlease Stadion.
Both teams have scored in six of the last seven Eredivisie encounters between these sides.
