MATCH PREVIEW

Two teams who failed to qualify for the World Cup (WC) finals in Russia meet at the City Arena in Trnava as they look to rebuild ahead of the Euro 2020 qualifying campaign.
Despite their failure in WC qualifying, Slovakia stuck with coach Ján Kozák and have subsequently won three of the last four games, including winning the King’s Cup in Thailand in March by beating the hosts 3-2 in the final.
Slovakia are strong at home, winning their last five on home soil and only losing twice in the last 19 dating back to May 2014 (W14, D3, L2).
Ronald Koeman is the latest man charged with restoring some pride to Dutch football after the failure to qualify for Euro 2016 and now the 2018 WC.
Koeman’s first game in charge of the Netherlands was back in March against in England, which resulted in a 1-0 loss. Subsequently, however, they produced an excellent display to beat Portugal 3-0. Despite the unsuccessful WC qualifying campaign, they have lost only two of their last 11 games, winning nine and keeping six clean sheets in the process.
Players to watch: It’s always hard to guess the lineups in friendlies, but Marek Hamšík is the undoubted star for Slovakia. He has 21 goals in 103 caps.
Memphis Depay has had a great season for Lyon and has scored in three of the Netherlands’ last four games.
Stat attack: These sides have only ever met twice before in history, with the Netherlands winning both: 2-0 in 2012, and 2-1 in 2010.
Slovakia are draw shy. They haven’t drawn in their last 12 games and have only been involved in six draws in their last 44 games.
The Dutch also are not keen on draws, failing to record even one in their last 14 games.
The Netherlands’ last five games have seen only one side score.
