MATCH PREVIEW

Given that Almere City finished ninth in the Eerste Divisie, they began their promotion quest the hard way, in the quarter final round of the relegation/promotion play-off. They have already beaten Maastricht over two legs (6-3 aggregate) to earn the right to play Eredivisie side Roda in this semi-final.
Almere City are no strangers to the competition as this is their fourth play-off campaign in a row. Yet, for all their experience, they have been knocked out at the quarter-final stage in two of their last three campaigns.
When they made it to the second round in 2015/’16, they lost 6-2 on aggregate to Eredivisie side Willem II. However, this record of making it year on year is evidence of the upwards curve the club (only founded in 2001) are on.
No home comforts? This will be only the third meeting of the sides, and the first in the play-offs. The last time they shared a league (in 2014/’15), the away side on the day won both games.
Players to watch: Ajax academy product Damon Mirani has managed a hat trick already in the last round of the competition for Almere, making him the top scorer in this play-off race so far.
Dani Schahin has scored a goal in each of his last two starts for Roda. The 28-year old forward is lethal in the air, winning on average 6.1 aerial duels per game.
Stat attack: Almere City have scored at least two goals in six of their last seven games at home, although Roda are unbeaten in five of their last seven away games in a higher division (W3, D2, L2).
Six of Almere’s last seven games have seen both teams score. So too have five of Roda’s last six games.
