MATCH PREVIEW

Nice host Montpellier in Sunday’s Ligue 1 (L1) encounter. Both teams are battling for a Europa League qualification spot going into this round 34 encounter, and just a single point separates them.
In 18 previous meetings at Allianz Riviera in their L1 history, Nice have won nine, Montpellier have won four and four have ended as a draw. Furthermore, the Aiglons (NIC) are unbeaten at home in their last five top-flight clashes against their visitors (W3, D2).
Nice come into this game after two-straight draws in the league, against Rennes at home (1-1) and away to Angers last weekend (1-1). Lucien Favre’s men have climbed up into sixth place in the table and are level on points with fifth-placed Rennes ahead of this round.
After an impressive run of nine games without a single loss in the league and a good draw away to high-flying Marseille (0-0), Montpellier saw their unbeaten run ended at home against Bordeaux (3-1) last Sunday. After this home defeat, Christophe Pélissier’s side have slipped to seventh place in the L1 standings.
Players to watch: Nice’s best player so far this season has been Alassane Plea who has 14 goals in the league and four assists. He has also scored eight of his team’s last ten goals!
On the other side, Montpellier’s French left-back Jérôme Roussillon is performing well this season with three goals and three assists, the joint-best assists total in the team.
Stat attack: Nice have lost only one of their last eight league fixtures (W3, D4, L1) – which was a narrow defeat at home to the untouchable L1 Champions, PSG (2-1).
Montpellier are the draw specialists in L1, with the points shared on 16 occasions out of 33 fixtures. Moreover, they have lost only one of their last 14 away games in L1 (W5, D8, L1)!
With 12 goals conceded in 16 matches so far, Montpellier have the joint-best away defence in the league along with PSG.
