MATCH PREVIEW

First-placed PSV (77pts) have the chance to secure their 24th Eredivisie title with a win over their arch rivals and second-placed Ajax (70pts). However, with three Eredivisie fixtures to play after this game, Ajax still have a slim chance of a late title challenge.
PSV are hunting their 24th league title and are looking to gain ground on Ajax’s 33 title haul. With one loss and five wins in their last six matches, PSV tip the balance slightly in their favour as the form team. Vengeance may be on the cards for Ajax after PSV claimed the 2016 title on goal difference over Ajax.
Nothing but three points here will do for Ajax, but even then, PSV would need to lose two of their remaining three games with Ajax picking up maximum points to miss out the title. After four wins, a draw and a loss from their last six games, Ajax are in good form and will relish the challenge. With AZ Alkmaar and Venlo away, and Excelsior at home in their final three games, Ajax will have a relatively ‘easy’ finish to their season and will go for maximum points.
In all competitions since 1993, PSV have won 23 fixtures, lost 18 and drawn 13 – their last meeting saw Ajax run out 3-0 winners in a game which produced seven yellow cards and three second-half goals.
With a victory here, PSV can stretch their unbeaten run at home to 30 games, however they have lost three of the last five in which Ajax were in town.
Players to watch: Hirving Lozano is the first PSV player to score 15+ goals in his debut season in the Eredivisie since 2000/’01 (Mateja Kezman) – the Mexican striker has 15 league goals and 11 assists.
Eight-goal Hakim Ziyech (AJA) has provided the most assists in the Eredivisie with 13, he has just handed his transfer request in for the summer!
Stat attack: Over 2.5 goals have been scored in each of PSV’s last eight games, and in ten of Ajax’s last 12 Eredivisie games.
Ajax have scored at least two goals in ten of their last 12 away games, and PSV have scored at least three goals in five of their last six league games.
