MATCH PREVIEW

Sunderland revived their survival hopes with a shock 4-1 win at promotion-chasing Derby on Good Friday, but it will be rendered meaningless if the Wearsiders fail to beat mid-table Sheffield Wednesday.
The home side cannot escape the bottom three today, but depending on results elsewhere, victory for Sunderland could put them within two points of 21st – the last safe spot, and the highest finish Sunderland can likely achieve on current form.
Sheffield Wednesday have won their last two Championship fixtures over teams above them. By logic, they should beat Sunderland, but have little to play for as they approach kickoff more than 20 points off the playoffs with just seven games left.
While Sunderland’s recent win at Derby has lifted the spirit around the club, the fact remains that they have the third-lowest home goal tally, and the second-highest number of home defeats in the entire league. They have failed to score and been beaten in each of their last three home games.
Referees have not been kind to Sheffield Wednesday – no less than six of their conceded goals have been penalties. Sunderland have been awarded four penalties this season.
Players to watch: Aiden McGeady did not feature for Ireland but came back and scored in Sunderland’s 4-1 away win over Derby after his domestic dry spell.
Kosovan International forward Atdhe Nuhiu has scored six goals in total for Sheffield Wednesday this season. Four of those were scored in his last two games.
Stat Attack: Sunderland have not won their last five home games, conceding 12 goals during that time – an average of 2.4 goals conceded per game.
Sheffield Wednesday scored in the 91st minute to win their last away game. It was their only away win in the last five and they have conceded an average of two goals per game in those fixtures.
