MATCH PREVIEW

Bottom-placed Malaga will host an out-of-form Valencia in round 24 of La Liga (LL). Malaga are seven points behind 17th-placed Levante and four points behind 19th-placed Las Palmas, so they will remain at the bottom of the standings even if they pull off the upset this Saturday.
Los Boquerones are coming off a 0-1 loss against Atletico Madrid the last time out; that was their second straight defeat and third in their last five matches (D2 L3), a period in which they scored just once while conceding four. For what is worth, they are currently in the midst of an eight-game winless LL run (D2, L6).
Valencia’s form has been slightly better, but it has not been anything overly impressive either. During their last five matches they have two wins and three losses and even though they are coming off a 3-1 home win over Levante last weekend, that result snapped a three-game losing streak for them.
Los Ché do have an advantage over Malaga in recent games between the two however, and have a W3, D1, L1 record in the past five contests against the Rosaleda outfit. Marcelino’s men won 5-0 at home when these two sides met earlier this season.
Players to watch: Santi Mina has been on fire for Valencia of late. The 22-year-old forward has three goals and one assist over his last four Liga appearances, and has netted nine times during the current campaign overall.
Malaga do not have a reliable goal scoring threat upfront, although Chory Castro has been playing well. The veteran winger has three goals this season and is the joint top-scorer in the team.
Stat attack: Malaga are riding a six-game winless run at home across all competitions. They are the worst home team in LL with just nine points from 11 games (W2, D3, L6).
Valencia only have one win in their last five matches away from the Mestalla. They have scored 20 times in 11 games on the road, though, averaging 1.8 per contest.
